Ringier AG is an innovative, digitalised and diversified Swiss media company operating in Europe and Africa. Its portfolio includes around 140 companies in the print, sports media, digital media, radio, ticketing, entertainment and e-commerce sectors and leading online marketplaces for cars, property and jobs. To run this huge online empire they had on-prem facilities and multiple AWS accounts partially automated by cloud formation. To move more data online they wanted to review the stability and security of the infrastructure and they asked Trustsoft to help.

The Task

Ringier, was looking for a partner to assist with migration of their infrastructure from on-premises to AWS. Primary business driver was the need to move to managed databases and to find a cloud provider that would provide a wide selection of managed services.

What we did

To make sure that the AWS accounts were set up properly and the infrastructure is stable and well secured we conducted the AWS WAFR (Well Architected Review).

We ran a comprehensive assessment of Ringier's existing infrastructure to evaluate its alignment with AWS best practices. The review focused on five key pillars: operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, and cost optimization. Each aspect of Ringier's setup was thoroughly examined to identify gaps and recommend improvements.
We provided the client with a clear roadmap to enhance their infrastructure's alignment with AWS best practices, listed 11 high risk issues, 3 medium and 1 low, and offered a solution that would lead to improved performance, security, reliability, and cost efficiency.

MAP Assessment phase

During the Assessment phase, we conducted a thorough evaluation of Ringier's current infrastructure to determine its readiness for migration to AWS. This phase included activities such as source discovery, database and Windows workload assessments, migration and modernization pattern analysis, multi-year cost projection (TCO), and a migration readiness assessment.

We identified the assets to be migrated, evaluated their current performance and compliance requirements, and mapped out potential migration strategies.

We also provided the client with workshop and training sessions to ensure Ringier's team was well-prepared for the migration process. The phase concluded with a comprehensive report documenting the findings and providing detailed recommendations for the migration.

MAP Mobilize phase

During the Mobilize phase, the focus was on creating the foundational structure and capabilities needed for the migration to AWS. This involved setting up the initial landing zone and defining IAM users and roles as infrastructure as code (IaC), developing a detailed migration plan, and preparing the necessary tools and processes. The phase concluded with a validated migration plan and the necessary infrastructure in place, ensuring a smooth transition to the cloud.
