dacadoo - Migration to AWS with Trustsoft

dacadoo's infrastructure and data in Asia were stored and operated on Azure in the Singapore datacenter, which was nearing capacity. They enlisted Trustsoft to assess their infrastructure and prepare for the migration to AWS. Trustsoft, an AWS Advanced Partner, secured funding for the migration through the AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) and assisted dacadoo throughout the process.

The AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) provides a structured approach to ensure a smooth and efficient transition from an Azure datacenter to AWS.

The Assess Phase
The Assess phase serves as the foundational step in the migration journey, focusing on understanding the current environment and setting the stage for a successful migration. Key activities during this phase include Discovery and Assessment, where a detailed analysis of the existing environment is conducted to understand workloads, dependencies, and performance requirements, along with a comprehensive inventory of applications, databases, and infrastructure components.

A Cost-Benefit Analysis is performed to evaluate the cost implications of moving to AWS, identifying potential savings and cost optimization opportunities, and developing a business case that highlights the benefits and ROI of the migration.

Additionally, Migration Readiness Assessment (MRA) is conducted to assess the organization's readiness to migrate, considering factors such as skills, processes, and tools, and identifying any gaps or risks that need to be addressed before proceeding.

The Mobilize Phase
Following the Assess phase, the Mobilize phase builds on its findings, concentrating on preparing the environment, people, and processes for the actual migration. This phase involves Detailed Planning, which includes creating a detailed migration plan (TAF - Trust Adoption Framework), with timelines, milestones, and responsibilities, and prioritizing workloads and applications to be migrated based on their importance and complexity.

It also involves building the environment, which entails setting up the AWS Landing Zone, including the necessary accounts, networking, and security configurations, and implementing the tools and frameworks required for migration.

Skill and process development is another critical part of this phase, involving training sessions and workshops to enhance the skills of the IT team, and establishing new processes and governance models to ensure a smooth transition and ongoing management in the AWS environment. Lastly, Pilot Migrations are executed to test the migration plan and processes, identifying and resolving any issues encountered during the pilot to refine the approach for the full-scale migration.
